Here’s a top 10 list of quality gaming products in 2018 which any serious gamer would absolutely love to receive as a gift, myself included.
As usual you can find direct Amazon links to each specific product below the pictures.
01 – CORSAIR GLAIVE RGB GAMING MOUSE:
Lets kick it off with the Corsair Glaive RGB Gaming Mouse which has a price tag of 50 US dollars on Amazon. This mouse is right-handed only and sports responsive Omron switches and a custom Pixart PMW 3367 Optical Sensor, offering a whopping 16,000dpi, which is way above anyone would ever need.
All 6 of its buttons are fully programmable including two thumb buttons and the DPI button, 5 pre-set DPI levels can be set and their corresponding LED’s are clearly displayed on the top of the mouse.
There are three independent zones of customisable RGB lighting including the Corsair logo at the rear. All three zones can all be independently customised to specific light patterns, using Corsair’s intuitive CUE software.
There are three removable thumb grips designed for a different feel and aesthetic, all of which use a tool-less magnetic design for quick and easy swapping making the mouse semi-modular. A robust 6ft braided cable rounds out the package.
Comfort, performance and build quality throughout is excellent and the design is superb, the Corsair Glaive RGB is the best mouse for the asking price.
02 – CORSAIR POLARIS MM800 RGB MOUSEPAD:
CORSAIR POLARIS MM600 (NO LED’s) MOUSEPAD:
OK next up we have the perfect partner for the aforementioned Glaive, the Corsair Polaris MM800 RGB Mousepad which wears a price tag 50 US dollars on Amazon.
This single sided hard surface durable mousepad features a low friction micro-textured surface ideal for fast and controlled pixel-precise tracking. A built-in USB pass-through port for connecting your mouse is included, as well as a non-slip rubber base for stability, and 1.8 metres of braided cable.
There are 15 independent zones of RGB lighting all of which are fully customizable using Corsair’s CUE software. We think one of the pre-set patterns named Visor looks particularly cool.
Corsair’s Link feature will allow you to link the RGB patterns for all your compatible RGB peripherals, displaying one awesome looking co-ordinated light show, if that’s your thing. If RGB doesn’t take your fancy then the cheaper MM600 is a great alternative.
03 – CORSAIR K68 RGB MECHANICAL KEYBOARD:
CORSAIR K68 RED LED ONLY VERSION:
OK moving on we have the Corsair K68 RGB Mechanical keyboard weighing in at 90 US dollars on Amazon. This keyboard features super responsive Cherry MX red switches, 100% anti-ghosting, full key rollover, and per-key customizable RGB backlighting.
Its also dust and spill resistant with an IP32 rating thanks to its rubber covering underneath the key caps. So if you’re prone to spillages on your desk, this keyboard for you. As expected Corsair had to omit USB ports to keep things waterproof.
There are 11 pre-set RGB lighting modes to choose from, and you can also program your own, however if you don’t fancy spending hours doing this, you can check out the RGB Profile Community on Corsair’s website to check out hundreds of custom profiles other people have created to simply download and apply.
As is the norm for Corsair, the build quality throughout is absolute top notch, the design is very sleek and overall it looks superb. If RGB doesn’t take your fancy, there is also a slightly cheaper red only LED version of this keyboard available, which is also linked above.
04 – KINGSTON HYPERX CLOUD ALPHA GAMING HEADSET:
OK next up we have the awesome HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset coming in at 100 USD on Amazon. Compatible with the PC, PS4, XBOX One, and Switch, the audio quality from this headset is superb, and is superior to the competition at the same price point.
This is partly thanks to its driver design which separates the bass ranges of sound so they are emitted at their own specific sections of the ear-cup, which sounds fantastic. Air vent holes are strategically placed on top of the cups to allow high volume sessions to resonate much better.
These headphones are nice and light, provide a very spacious comfortable fit over the ears, and the contact areas are very soft thanks to the memory foam ear pads, perfect for long gaming sessions. The microphone is decent quality ideal for game chat and streamers, and is also detachable which is a nice bonus.
The build quality and design is superb, with attractive stitching along the headband and a nice embossed logo on the top, resulting in a really nice looking headset any gamer would be proud to own.
05 – BLUE YETI USB MICROPHONE:
Moving on we have the Blue Yeti USB microphone which has a price tag of 129 USD on Amazon. This microphone has been available for a few years now, but is still the best microphone for the asking price and is perfectly suited for all types of online video and streaming.
Made from a very sturdy and weighty metal the build quality of this mic is top notch. Underneath the mesh cap are 3 condenser microphone capsules, making the Blue Yeti suitable for any recording situation, such as bidirectional, omnidirectional, cardioid and stereo.
Compatible with both PC and mac out of the box with no additional drivers required, it has an internal pre-amp and analog to digital converter, making the Blue Yeti as plug and play as a table lamp.
A handy feature on the bottom of the device is a headphone jack which allows latency free real-time monitoring while you’re recording, allowing you to quickly identify and rectify any issues on the fly.
The mic can also be removed from its included desk stand and mounted to a more substantial studio boom stand if required using the included threaded mounting hole located on the bottom of the device.
The price may be considered a little too expensive for some people, but with the Blue Yeti, you really do get more than you pay for.
06 – LOGITECH Z623 2.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM:
Next up we have the best 2.1 speaker system for gaming, the awesome Logitech Z623, coming in at just under 120 USD on Amazon. These speakers meet the strict THX certification stamp of approval, offering a deep resounding bass to satisfy even the most earth shaking games.
A whopping 200 watts RMS of input power guarantee clarity at even the loudest volumes, allowing for an even more immersive experience not just for games, but for bass heavy music, explosive movies and everything in between.
The only niggle we do have is the design doesn’t particularly look gamer focused, but when it comes to audio this really is a moot point as your ears will thank you every time you switch them on.
Audio Input connections located on the rear of the sub-woofer include a 3.5mm jack and left and right RCA connections, allowing up to three audio devices to be connected simultaneously.
At this price point, you just wont find a better speaker system for your gaming PC or console.
07 – LOGITECH G29 & G920 RACING WHEELS:
Moving on we have the LOGITECH G29 and G920 RACING WHEELs offering the definitive driving experience for racing fans, coming in with a price tag of around $250 on Amazon.
Both wheels are essentially the same product, the G29 is compatible with PS3 / PS4 and PC, while the G920 is compatible with XBOX One and PC, both models have an optional manual shifter.
Unlike previous models the latest G29 has all its buttons and controls conveniently located on the wheel itself, and not on a separate module, including a new 24-point selection dial.
The wheel itself possesses nice grippy high quality hand stitched leather, a sturdy desk mounting mechanism, helical gearing for smooth steering, 900 degrees of rotation lock to lock, a realistic responsive dual-motor force feedback system, stainless steel paddle shifters, and an RPM LED indicator bar for optimum shift timing.
The pedal set is a weighty stainless steel with rubber and carpet grips, while the brake pedal is now non-linear making for a more realistic experience than all previous models.
For the asking price the G29 really is the best racing wheel currently available, perfect for any racing sim fan.
08 – MICROSOFT XBOX ELITE WIRELESS CONTROLLER [09:24]:
OK next up we have the awesome XBOX One Elite wireless controller, compatible with XBOX One and PC, this controller wears a price tag of 150 US dollars on Amazon, and unfortunately is not available for PS4.
This controller has been around for a few years now, but is still by far the best wireless controller you can buy with your money, and well worth the asking price.
It features a handy new profile switcher button in the centre of the controller for quick swapping between two button configurations which can be fully customized in the software. Using the app you can remap every button changing their core functions, change stick and trigger sensitivities, and adjust vibration intensities.
Four new paddle buttons labelled P1-P4 are located underneath the controller allowing you to make use of even more fingers, these paddles come in two sizes and are magnetic, so can be quickly and easily attached or detached to any slots you desire.
The D-Pad and both thumb sticks can all be customised using the bundled accessories kit, to perfectly suit your preferred feel depending on the type of game being played. Again all these accessories are magnetic locking the pieces into place very firmly, reliably and quickly.
Hair trigger locks for both triggers allow you to independently adjust the physical travel distance of each trigger, allowing for quicker activation and therefore quicker firing rates, if the game you’re playing will benefit.
The controller weighs noticeably more than the standard controllers, has a really nice grippy texturing on the handles, and a smooth matte rubber coating which oozes quality and feels very nice to handle.
The price tag may seem high for a controller, but if you’re a gamer who uses a controller often and wants the best of the best in terms of looks, feel, top notch build quality and performance, then it really is a no brainer.
09 – NACON REVOLUTION PRO V2 WIRED CONTROLLER [11:29]:
Moving on we have the best controller for PS4, the Nacon Revolution Pro v2 which is compatible with both PS4 and PC with a price tag of 112 US dollars on Amazon. Unfortunately its not in the same league as the XBOX One Elite, but its close and the best offering currently available on PS4 for the price.
Bear in mind the Nacon Revolution is classified as a Pro controller, therefore it is wired only and not available in a wireless format. If you prefer to have a wireless controller for your PS4, then the standard DualShock 4’s are still your best bet for the money.
The Nacon has a very high quality finish with a grippy rubberized coating similar to that of the XBOX One Elite. The illuminated ring around the right thumb stick looks particularly cool adding to the gamer focused design.
All the buttons are nice and chunky and the actuation feedback feels good when pressed. Unfortunately the thumb sticks are not interchangeable but they are made from a high quality metal, and the grippy caps offer a good amount of precise control, suitable for long gaming sessions.
The D-Pad is well designed offering a smooth accurate response to complex commands like combos in fighting games, unlike the D-Pad on the standard Dual Shock 4.
Four additional buttons via two triggers are located underneath the controller labelled M1-M4. All the buttons and both sticks can be fully remapped and customised using the very intuitive and easy to use software.
You can store up to eight custom configuration profiles, four for the PS4 and four for the PC, which will satisfy even the most hard core configuration addicts.
If you don’t mind using a wired controller, then the Nacon Revolution Pro v2 is the best controller for the PS4, for the asking price.
10 – ASUS ROG SWIFT PG27UQ GAMING MONITOR [13:34]:
OK last but certainly not least we have the spectacular Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ, the very best of the best high end PC gaming monitors, aimed at serious PC gamers who simply want the bleeding edge of display technology,
oh and preferably with very deep pockets as it retails for a wallet busting 2,300 US dollars on Amazon.
It’s the very first monitor to be able to deliver a full 4k resolution at a 144Hz refresh rate. Its also the first gaming monitor to feature a full array local dimming backlight, with 384 1in wide individually controlled lighting zones that allow it to deliver a colossal 1,000 nits peak brightness and the 10,000:1 contrast ratio required of true HDR, which is where this panel really shines.
The blackness of night is truly that, and backlight bleed and IPS glow are all but eliminated in practical terms. The use of quantum dot colour filters also means it can reproduce the wide colour gamut required for HDR, with true 10-bit colour processing.
The panel also incorporates nVidia’s G-sync technology efficiently eliminating all those ugly screen tears at the hardware level. The only issue is even with a top end RTX 2080Ti or Titan V, it will still not be possible to run the latest graphically intensive games maxed out at 4k while hitting that 144Hz refresh rate.
For this to happen it will likely take another 2-3 generations of GPU’s before we see this capability. Either way, while we wait, it will still be a hell of lot of fun playing around with the settings as well as less demanding games, to get as close as possible to those eye popping visuals.
The quality of this panel is not only perfect for displaying HDR games and movies, but also for performing colour critical tasks required by professional graphics workstations. The 27” diameter may be a bit on the small side for some, myself included, but there’s no doubt the smaller form factor definitely adds to the 4k definition and clarity over much larger PC monitors.
The panel certainly looks like it was designed to impress hard core gamers from the desk up, with no less than four separate external lighting areas for the sole purpose of dazzling onlookers, such as a downlight which fires from the base of the stand and onto the desk, a light up top which projects the ROG logo onto the wall behind, and a huge RGB-backlit ROG logo on the rear of the casing.
The outlandish exterior unapologetically screams gamer from all angles. However, as beautiful as it is, there’s no doubt its premium price tag and relatively modest 27” size may put a lot of gamers off.
What we can safely say is the Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ is the best monitor currently available for hard core gamers, who just want the best of the best in cutting edge technology.
